There are border towns and then there are border towns and Guatemala’s border is no exception. Talk about the wild Latin town of yesteryear where Latin America are trying to improve their image services and tourism they forgot to sort out their border crossings, it can be intimidating and is an obstacle course. Passing through Mexico is seamless, as long as you have your exit paper and pay the exit tax, even if you have not paid your tax they are courteous and will help you. Exit Tax is $295 MXN per person
Once you are in Guatemala be very very careful. Walk through the small street to immigration DO NOT stop for anything, the money changers or people saying they are going to help you. Guatemala Immigration will accept Mexican Pesos you don’t need Quetzal to pay entry tax ($20MXN per person). Unless you know what you are doing you it can be overwhelming had to help a young Aussie couple.
No photo today.. but it has been an experience crossing by land.
